Last night the Jeffco Board of County Commissioners unanimously decided to draft a resolution denying rezoning for the "Rail Line Quarry"! This decision came after almost 17 months of community effort to evaluate and respond to the mining proposal put forth by Asphalt Paving Company of Golden.
The commissioners based their decision on APC's failure to demonstrate the
need for the mine and that it would not infringe on the property rights of
neighboring property owners. Thousands of cards, e-mails and letters were
submitted by the public, voicing concerns about impacts to neighboring
residential and recreational lands.
Our thanks to the many people who became involved and made the difference. The hearing rooms were always full, even during the daytime hearings. The public testimony was well thought out and persuasive in every respect. People from all along the front range sacrificed their time to come to the hearings and be part of the process, rather than watch from the sidelines.
Please take this opportunity to thank the Jefferson County commissioners,
Rick Sheehan, Pat Holloway and Michelle Lawrence
(pubinfo@co.jefferson.co.us) for putting the public interest first! This
was a very difficult decision for them, but they did the right thing and you
should let them know it. The commissioners will vote on the final
resolution December 7th.
Thanks so much for your help!
